Inception

This past weekend I was able to watch inception again. This movie is so intense! It really stretches the mind and makes you think. I love the movies and t.v. shows that help me think more. It seems that each time I watch a movie like this I catch something I never knew before or I understand something new. This time I had a brain hurting thought that his minds projection of maul "didn't know" that he had performed inception in her mind. When he tells her at the end that he did that she starts to cry and realize what happened but in reality, or what we think is reality, she is dead and gone and it's only his mind that is filling in her emotions because he thinks that's how she would feel. As you can see from me trying to explain it, it gets a little fuzzy and hurts your brain to try and wrap around it. I think things like this are good though because then we are in the practice of seeing and thinking of things in a different way and in a deeper way. I really like the movie and can't imagine the brain cramps that the writers may have had in creating this screen play.

Media everywhere

Media is all around us almost all of the time. Even when you are shopping in the mall, you hear music playing over the radio. When you go to the dentist or some establishment like that they have tv's with movies or shows playing so you have something to do while you wait. However most of the time in places like that if you look around, it doesn't really matter that those tv's are on because everyone is looking at their smart phones anyway. I am not going to pretend like I am not exactly the same but my point is that media is everywhere and I think like everything it can have either a positive or negative effect on our lives. There is a lot of media that is uplifting and can teach us things. Just recently I was able to see the movie "concussion". This was based on a true story and it was about the man that took on football because the dangers of concussions that can come from lots of hits to the head. The morals in the film/story are really good. To me it taught that honesty is crucial no matter how much it may hurt yourself or others. And it taught me that I need to stand for what is right and not let people persuade me otherwise. The man in the story was a genuinely good person who wanted to save and take care of these men who were putting their mental and physical health at risk without knowing the ramifications. He didn't do it for the money or the credit, he simply wanted to protect people from the terrible conditions that concussions can bring. On the other hand there is a lot of negative media as well. I was watching a film that is a comedy and as I watched it there wast anything terrible or shocking to me but about half way through the film there was a scene that showed a young woman bathing in a pool by a waterfall and it showed her full back side where she was fully unclothed. I was disappointed because I knew that the content of that scene was not necessary in the slightest. The movie would have been very complete without that scene and no one would have felt that the plot was missing anything. The scene was simply to titalate the viewer into feeling arousing emotions. I don't feel that anyone even adults need to be subjected to those kind of things. If someone wants to choose for themselves to view those kind of things then that's their choice but I feel that it should not be a public event because some choose not to view situations like that. Thankfully now more than ever there are websites that tell you exactly what is in the movies or shows you want to see so you can choose not to go see it. Media is inevitable unless you live in a cave all that is left now for us to do is to choose what we view and how much media we use. It's all up to us.
